In today’s blog, I am sparking joy for The Girl Twin with a bedroom makeover, just in time for Back-To-School! And what’s even better, is that we were able to give her a budget-friendly and beautiful new room, using the SAME bedroom furniture. I have a couple of simple tips that make a huge impact when transforming a space to make it look larger…keep reading.
Start With Paint
It’s no secret that lighter paint can make a room look brighter and feel much larger. This is because lighter walls are more reflective, automatically making your space feel more open. For my daughter’s room, I opted to use the same soft-toned off white paint that I used in my office, called SW Sail Cloth. Look at the immediate impact it had on her room!
Already, a HUGE difference, right?
Next, we updated her lighting. With only one small window to allow natural light into the room, I had the option of either adding some creative overhead lighting, or some fun accent lighting. I decided to add in some accent lighting with lamps, and to create an accent wall using programmable fairy lights.
Also, because we were dealing with limited natural light, I didn’t want to cover her windows with any treatments that would restrict the light too much. These Better Homes & Gardens Polka Dot Panels were the perfect addition to the room. Not only did they add an affordable and stylish element to her window, they brought the perfect pop of color that we needed on that side of the room as well. They are offered in a variety of colors, but we decided on blush pink.
Maximize Your Furniture Layout
It’s important to remember to scale your furniture to the size of the room. Remember the bookcase we had in the corner? Well, she still used it, but it was definitely in the wrong place because it was too small for the area, and wasted a lot of usable space. We decided to move the bookcase to the other side of the window, and to create a little reading nook with this Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart papasan chair.
Add Color With Bedding
We added additional color to the room with this clever blush pink bedding from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart. The scalloped ruffles added just the perfect touch of mature femininity, without the “pink tones” feeling like they’d overpowered the room. Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart offers a huge selection of affordable throw pillows to reflect your personal style and add comfort to your bed.

You did a wonderful job! What kind of lights did you use for the backdrop?

You have definitely inspired me to redecorate my 14 year old daughter’s room now that she’s staring High School this year! How time flies! ?
Where are the fairy lights from?
